What you will do

Gamebook Studio is currently looking for an Art Director to join and expand our team. We want you to coordinate and drive the visual direction for the production of episodic games and new storytelling formats created with our very own Gamebook Technology. If you like to work very hands-on and also have a good technical background, read on!

  • Understand our unique customers’ vision and give it an exceptional artistic framework. By doing this you develop the style of visual/audio concepts and moodboards of all content created at Gamebook Studio and with Gamebook Technology. The spectrum ranges from a stylized comic looks (see our most recent release My Love: Make Your Choice!) up to more abstract or realistic art in our e-learning projects. 

  • Shape and supervise and plan the strategy of your art department in a visionary way that allows to think out of the box to reach the next level. As with Gamebook we're navigating uncharted territory.

  • Inspire and lead an international team of artists at our two company locations in Berlin and Halle and collaborate with international partners in the Game Industry and beyond.

  • Live a flawless communication with other departments contributing to our serial content production pipeline at Gamebook Studio: particularly Art, Story Writing, Game Design and QA need to work together on a daily basis to ensure the high quality of our story products and timely releases of our games and products.

  • Devise, track and maintain the overall project art assets, milestones and budgets for our internal and external serial productions in Gamebook Studio. Part of our art assets is being produced by external graphics specialists and then integrated by our internal Technical Artists. 

  • You'll constantly improve concepts, storyboards through regular feedback. You set high aesthetic standards and convey it through style guidelines.

  • You’ll assess, which technical approach for an 2D/3D assets works best with the technology we're working with.

Your skills and experience
  • You have 5+ years of experience in the film or games industry, preferable in a leading position. If you've worked on animated series or movies or did jobs in advertising, that's definitely a plus. 

  • You have exceptional visionary concept art skills.

  • You’re used to work in a multi-project environment.

  • You bring and excellent understanding of 3D and 2D design as well as UI design with a focus on mobile products.

  • You have an excellent grasp of the technology beneath the art assets: You're familiar with 3D graphics and also know your way around tools like 3D Studio MAX, Blender, Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop and Illustrator. If the situation requires it, you're able to adapt or change a 3D asset yourself. 

  • You have a deeper knowledge of the Unity3D Engine and art-related specifics. Know-how regarding other game engines is a plus.

  • You’re a constant driver and improver with a high level of originality, creativity and the ambition to cover a wide range of styles and be experimental when necessary.

  • You’re a comfortable communicator and teamplayer with a diversity of people.

  • You’re prepared to lead our art team at both our company divisions in Berlin and Halle including regular travels between both locations (roughly 1 hr train ride).

  • You ideally have a degree in graphic design, art, film, animation, game design or equivalent.
